Frequently asked questions
Scoring, logging, subscriptions, and privacy. Here’s the plain-English version. Still stuck? Email support@nourishhealth.app or reach us through the app.
Meal estimates
How does the meal estimate work?
For each analyzed meal, Nourish estimates a score from 0 to 100 using:
- Microbiome support, including plant variety, fiber, prebiotics, and fermented foods
- Estimated digestibility, including processing level, preparation, and portion size
- Inflammation-related food characteristics
- Nutrition values such as calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, and fiber
Nourish analyzes your photo or description to create the estimate. It does not measure your microbiome, digestion, or inflammation, and it is not medical advice.
What do the score ranges mean?
- 80-100: Excellent
- 60-79: Solid
- 40-59: Fair
- 0-39: Needs work
How is my daily gut health score calculated?
Your daily score starts with the average of that day’s analyzed meal scores. Progress toward your saved water target can add up to 10 points. If you have no analyzed meals that day, there is no food score.
Does the scoring consider my dietary restrictions?
Nourish uses your dietary restrictions, saved health context such as IBS or reflux, and goals when estimating meals and suggesting options. It does not diagnose a condition or decide what caused a reaction.
Food logging
How do I log a meal?
Open the meal log, then take or import a photo, describe the meal, scan a barcode, repeat a recent meal, or choose a recipe. Photos and descriptions need an internet connection for analysis.
What if Nourish gets my food wrong?
Meal results are estimates, so give them a quick check. You can edit the serving size and core nutrition values, or delete the meal and try again with a clearer photo or description.
Can I edit or delete food logs?
Yes. Open a meal to edit its serving size and core nutrition values or delete it. Editing and deletion require an internet connection.
How accurate is the nutritional information?
Nutrition values are estimates based on the photo and details you provide. If precision matters, use a food scale for portion sizes. Food-factor scores estimate characteristics of the meal; they do not measure your microbiome, digestion, or inflammation.
Water logging
How do I log water intake?
Tap the water card on the Home screen, then enter how much you drank.
What's my daily water target?
Your water target is part of your nutrition plan and is typically based on your weight, activity level, and goals. View or change it in Settings under Nutrition Plan.
Can I change my water target?
Yes. Go to Settings, open Nutrition Plan, and edit your water target (in liters).
Nutrition plans
How is my nutrition plan created?
Your starting plan is calculated on your device using:
- Age, height, and weight
- Your gender selection (Nourish uses a midpoint if you select non-binary or prefer not to say)
- Activity level
The plan estimates maintenance needs rather than creating a weight-loss deficit. It is not a medical nutrition prescription.
Can I update my nutrition plan?
Yes. In Settings under Nutrition Plan, you can recalculate from your saved measurements and activity level or manually adjust your targets.
What targets are included in my plan?
Your plan includes daily targets for:
- Calories
- Protein (grams)
- Carbohydrates (grams)
- Fat (grams)
- Fiber (grams)
- Water (liters)
Streaks
How do streaks work?
Your food streak tracks consecutive days with at least one logged meal. The streak resets if you go more than one day without logging.
What happens if I miss a day?
If you logged yesterday, your streak stays active through today. It resets after a full calendar day passes without a meal, so one meal log a day keeps it going.
Can I see my streak history?
Your current streak is displayed in the app header. Historical streak data is available in the Stats screen.
Progress tracking
How do I view my progress?
Use the Stats tab to see:
- Gut health score trends over time
- Weekly recaps
- Progress toward your nutrition goals
- Historical data for calories, macros, fiber, and water
Can I view data for past dates?
Yes. Use the calendar on the home screen to select any date and view your logs and progress for that day.
Nourish+ subscription
What's included in Nourish+?
Nourish+ includes:
- Unlimited meal estimates
- Nutrition plans based on your profile
- Detailed progress tracking
- Gut-health insights and suggestions
How much does Nourish+ cost?
The app shows current monthly and yearly prices before you buy. A trial appears only when Apple confirms that your account and selected plan are eligible.
How do I manage my subscription?
Go to Settings, open Subscription, and tap "Manage Subscription" to view or cancel your subscription through your device's subscription management.
Can I use the app without a subscription?
Nourish+ is required for ongoing access after onboarding and any eligible trial. Existing subscribers should sign in with the same account and can use Restore Purchases if access does not appear.
Notifications
How do I enable notifications?
Go to Settings, open Notifications, and toggle "Enable Notifications." You can then customize meal logging reminders, water reminders, and streak reminders.
Can I customize notification times?
You can independently enable meal, water, and streak reminders. Their delivery times are currently set by the app and are not individually editable.
How do I disable notifications?
Go to Settings, open Notifications, and toggle off "Enable Notifications" or disable individual reminder types.
Account and settings
How do I update my profile information?

- Measurements (height, weight, gender, birthday)
- Nutrition Plan (calories, macros, fiber, water)
- Preferences (goals, symptoms, dietary restrictions, activity level)
Can I change my unit system (metric/imperial)?
Yes. When editing Measurements in Settings, you can toggle between metric and imperial units.
How do I sign out?
Scroll to the bottom of Settings and tap "Sign Out."
Privacy and data
What data does Nourish collect?
We collect:
- Account information and sign-in identifiers
- Profile and wellness information you provide
- Meal photos or descriptions, nutrition logs, reactions, water logs, and recipe content
- Subscription and entitlement status
- Optional product analytics and technical diagnostics, only if you opt in
Current v2 Apple Health values are read and calculated on your device rather than uploaded. See the Privacy Policy for provider and historical-processing details.
Are my photos stored securely?
Meal and recipe photos are stored in Nourish’s file storage and sent over encrypted connections. With your permission, a photo may be processed by Google Gemini or Anthropic Claude when you use an AI feature. No online system can promise absolute security.
Can I delete my account and data?
Yes. In the app, open Settings and tap "Delete Account." You must be online to finish the deletion. Deleting your account does not cancel an Apple subscription, so cancel that separately in Apple’s subscription settings.
Is my health data shared with third parties?
Nourish does not sell health information or use it for targeted advertising. Service providers handle only the data needed for sign-in, storage, subscriptions, optional analytics and diagnostics, and analysis features. Current Apple Health values stay on your device. See the Privacy Policy for the full details.
Moving from v1 to v2
How do I recover my v1 account in v2?
Update through the App Store and sign in once with the same Apple or Google account you used in v1. Nourish matches the exact account ID rather than relying on email alone. If your eligible history or subscription does not appear, do not create a new account; email support@nourishhealth.app.
What v1 data is eligible to transfer?
The v2 update can transfer eligible profile settings, meal and nutrition logs, supported reactions, and water logs. Subscription access is restored separately through the same account and Apple’s purchase system.
What v1 data does not transfer?
The update does not transfer v1 meal or storage photos, user-created recipes or favorites, generated insight history, notification schedules, purchase-transfer records, or other old system data. Save anything you need from those categories before updating, and contact support if you need help.
What happens to meals I logged offline in v1?
The old offline queue was not safely tied to an account, so v2 never assigns it from a matching email alone. If one previous account can be verified on the same device, the app offers a protected recovery step. If ownership is unclear, those queued meals stay separate so they cannot appear in the wrong account.
Technical issues
The camera isn't working. What should I do?
Ensure you've granted camera permissions in iOS Settings under Nourish. If issues persist, try restarting the app or your device.
Why is meal analysis taking so long?
A meal usually takes a few seconds to analyze. If it is still working, check your internet connection and try again.
My progress isn't updating.
Pull down on the Home screen to refresh. If nothing changes, check your internet connection and restart the app.
Can I use the app offline?
After you have signed in on a device, some saved content stays available and supported meal and water logs can wait to sync. They upload when you reconnect. Meal analysis, edits, reactions, recipes, purchases, and account deletion need an internet connection.
General
How often should I log meals?
Log close to when you eat so ingredients and reactions are easier to remember. One meal log a day keeps your streak going.
Should I log snacks?
Yes. Snacks help build a more complete record of your day.
What if I eat out or have a complex meal?
Take a photo and add a note for anything the image may miss, such as ingredients, sauces, or how the meal was prepared.
How do I get a better meal estimate?
For best results:
- Take clear, well-lit photos
- Include every part of the meal
- Log meals consistently
- Update your dietary restrictions and symptoms in Settings if they change
Can I export my data?
There is not currently a self-service export button. Email support@nourishhealth.app to request an export or exercise an applicable privacy right. We may need to verify that you control the account.
Who can I contact for support?
Email support@nourishhealth.app or use Settings → Help & Support → Send Feedback in the app.
